The versatile lime has long been used in cuisines around the world and add a delightful brightness to fish dishes, guacamole, etc. Its energizing citrusy scent is also popular in perfumes, candles, and cleaning products.
Lime slices, along with lemon and orange slices, added to a tall glass of ice water on a hot summer day are invigorating and give a boost of vitamin C, but my family’s favorite is the summertime treat of a refreshing, frozen key lime pie. Yummy!
Today I offer you a slice of blueberry pie in honor of this national holiday. Blueberries are considered one of the world’s healthiest foods. Each is an amazing source of antioxidants, vitamin K, vitamin C, and fiber, and blueberries promote heart and brain health among other good things.
National Blueberry Pie Day #doodlewashaday
An interesting fact is that blueberry pie is the official dessert of the state of Maine, which makes sense because their official fruit is a blueberry. Who knew states have official desserts? Curiously I googled Ohio’s official state dessert, but alas we do not seem to have one. We are also slighted because our official state fruit is a tomato. What? A tomato? Oh well, our farmers grow pretty awesome tomatoes here in the summer, but I don’t think tomato pie sounds very appealing for dessert. Do you want that with or without whipped cream? HA! Happy National Blueberry Pie Day!
