Fourth Week Recap of World Watercolor Month

Charlie, the founder of Doodlewash and World Watercolor Month, has given us thought-provoking prompts this year; these are my interpretations for the fourth week. The paintings are not meant to be masterpieces. The point is to simply enjoy the process of painting and not worry about the end product so much.

Valuable - Love/Relationships
Valuable – Love/Relationships

I’m grateful to have such a wonderful quarantine partner, and I miss being with so many other family members and friends.

Alone - Male Betta Fish
Alone – Male Betta Fish

Evidently, male Bettas need to be kept apart or they become aggressive and fight. My niece, Katie, has a Betta named Dave 🙂

Abundance – Corn

Generally, we have an abundance of corn in Ohio by now, but because of an extremely wet spring, corn is more precious this year. Freshly picked corn on the cob is a summertime treat!

Sharp - Pocket Knife
Sharp – Pocket Knife

As a kid, it seemed like my Dad’s pocket knife was magic. He could make or fix just about everything with it!

Favorite Song - Anything by The Monkees
Favorite Song – Anything by The Monkees

You probably already know how much I enjoy The Monkees and their music. This is their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Shine - Light Bulb
Shine – Light Bulb

Our neighbors have a string of Edison light bulbs on their deck, and they look so festive at night!

Complementary - Colors
Complementary – Colors

Complementary colors, like blue and orange, when placed side by side, create a pleasing contrast and enhance each other. When mixed, they cancel each other out and make a neutral color.

There are only three days left of the WWCM celebration. Thanks for stopping by, and please stay safe!

World Watercolor Month is an annual global charitable event featuring the ultimate challenge of 31 Watercolors is 31 Days!  Artists around the globe come together to paint the world with beautiful watercolor and help raise awareness for arts education to get art supplies for kids who need them.  If you want to know more or help deserving children get art supplies, please check out the official WWCM website here.

Love, #WorldWatercolorGroup

Here is a simple little hand heart silhouette for today’s prompt.

Heart Hands

Hand Hearts

Hand hearts are widely used everywhere in the world, but this love symbol is now widespread in today’s pop culture.  According to recent Internet polls (it must be true if it is on the Internet, right?), some trendsetters are “so over” the hand heart craze and no longer find it cool, but considering the frequency of many other unflattering hand gestures, I hope this one is here to stay for a long time!

Disney Cards

Mickey and Minnie have brought many smiles to kids (and adults!) around the world and I hope these cards will, too.  One of my friends, Linda, let me borrow her Disney Cricut cartridge and I have been taking full advantage of it. Below are a few of the designs and I am still working on a couple more.

I found the Disney washi tape used on the first four cards at JoAnn’s in the clearance section – what a score!

Julie, did I do okay? 🙂 Have a Happy Day!!

A Box of 327 Sent, Thanks To Friends and Family!

Hurray!  The large flat rate box was mailed to OWH last week and included 284 love/valentine cards and 43 Anyhero cards.  It seems that I get writer’s cramp so quickly these days, so I am thankful to those who helped me write out the Anyhero cards!  I am also thankful to my friends who, at our previous girls’ weekend, helped me assemble the last of the bunch of regular cards.  Without all this extra help, I would not have been able to get the box sent in soon.  Thank you!!

There were also some cards geared toward children; maybe I will upload those at a later date.  Now that it is snowing like crazy, I might get to write a few more posts this weekend.  Be safe out there!

Love Cards with Unconventional Colors

It has been a productive, crafty week.  I made a big batch of these Love/Valentine cards for OWH following a challenge of using unconventional valentine colors and think the golden yellow/olive look so pretty.

Punch Pourri Card

Punch Pourri Card

The background is embossed with Devine Swirls in white.  The stamps are from Stampin Up’s Punch Pourri set and coordinate with the Boho Blossoms, Heart, and Bird punches.  The olive strip is embossed with SU’s Square Lattice folder, and the yellow edge is punched with a Martha Stewart edge punch.

Next I am working on some traditional-looking Love/Valentine cards with Cricit cutouts.  Hopefully I will finish those in a few days – so many ideas, so little time!

Making Some Crafty Strides

How in the world did November arrive so quickly?  Guess time flies when you are having fun!  I finished the Hawaii scrapbook but know it is not my best effort.  It was so overwhelming because of the length of the trip and the amount of pictures to go through, but I was determined to get that off my plate.  Over two weeks I devoted huge chunks of time to it but was glad to get the last embellishment on the last page.  Then I had to get all the pages over the metal binding posts with added extenders, which is no easy feat, and just as it was almost on my last nerve, the final post was screwed together.  Of course that was after one kept popping off and the dog tried to eat it multiple times!

Another reason it was on my last nerve was because I have so many ideas swirling in my head for the other projects I want to finish by the end of the year as I mentioned in my previous post.  I am making headway on the love/Valentine cards for OWH and am showcasing this one today.

Owl Silhouettes

Owl Silhouettes

The owls are from the Stampin Up Owl Punch and the branch is from the Stampin Up Bird punch.  The heart is a Martha Stewart sticker, the moon is a 3-1/2 inch white circle, and I used the Cloudy Day embossing folder from Stampin Up on the blue background.  Thanks, Sharon, for giving me a gentle nudge to update.  Now back to my crafty corner to start a new batch.  Happy November!
