Halloween is an annual holiday celebrated each year on October 31st. It originated with an ancient Celtic festival when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts.
My first recollection of a Halloween costume was when I was a butterfly named Joy of The Bugaloos, a Sid and Marty Kroft show from the early 1970s. I was excited and felt like Halloween royalty to wear a store-bought costume with a hard plastic mask that eventually stunk because exhales and sweat gathered inside and made it steamy. How glamorous 🙂 As I aged into my early teens, I remember being a hobo and wearing my brother’s old CPO jacket, and I had a big plastic cigar that puffed baby powder as smoke. That year it rained like crazy and my paper sack soaked through, and I lost some of my candy treasures. After that, we learned to use pillowcases to gather our loot!
What is your favorite Halloween costume memory/costume? Unfortunately, it is going to be frigidly cold here tonight, but hopefully we have some die-hard trick-or-treaters because we have a lot of candy to distribute! Happy Halloween!
